‘Sugar Woman’, a bittersweet story about a forgotten streetwalker, imploring her not to give up on life and love, co-written by Kiris Houston (Disciples, Kylie Minogue, Joss Stone, Little Mix), a multi-Platinum selling and Latin Grammy award-winning producer/composer/arranger/multi-instrumentalist.
The song was originally inspired by the Rodrigeus song ‘Sugar Man’, as after hearing the song, Lang asked herself the question: “if a Sugar Man is a drug dealer, then what would a Sugar Woman be?” From that initial idea, a song was born about hope, sadness, and not giving up, even if life has taken you down some pretty dark roads.
lyrics
Sugar Woman, has lost her sweetness
Spoiled by those who picked her
Climate is no good for her seasons, yeah
Some say she’s rotten to the core
With every season, she’s making money
But there’s seems to be no change
Bittersweet they want all her honey
And they think it's all the same
Girl, don’t ya wanna come in from the cold?
Girl, don’t ya want someone real to hold?
There's a place where you can bask in the sun
Ooh yeah, sweet
Ooh my sweet
Sugar Woman
Sugar Woman, looks for love
On the corners that know her name
Ooh, she's flashing like a red light
No vacancy
Some say she’s to blame, yeah
With strange shadows in the moonlight
Oh oh oh, she seems to disappear
They pay cheap and want all her honey
And they think it's all the same
Girl, don’t ya wanna come in from the cold?
Girl, don’t ya want someone real to hold?
There's a place where you can bask in the sun
Sweet, ooh my sweet
Sugar Woman
(Don’t keep running)
Don’t keep running (Love)
You can find it, love
(Don’t keep running)
You can find it
(You can find it)
Oh, love!
Girl, don’t ya wanna come in from the cold, yeah?
Girl, don’t ya want someone real to hold?
There's a place where you can bask in the sun
Sweet, ooh my sweet girl
Don’t cha wanna come in from the cold, yeah?
Girl don’t ya want someone real to hold?
There's a place where you can bask in the sun
Sweet, Sugar Woman
My Sugar Woman, yeah
You can be sweet, so sweet, sweet
You can be sweet, so sweet

Gorgeous minimalist arrangements and one of the most beautiful and moving voices I've ever heard. Lady Blackbird brings a Monk-like ability to get right into your guts and start rooting around. brussb
